07: Risk assessments

Central to the employer’s duty is the obligation to carry out ‘risk’ assessments that are ‘suitable and sufficient’ to look for hazards, to evaluate them, their risks and who might be harmed, and to decide whether precautions or further precautions should be taken. Employers also have a duty to take preventative measures to avoid or reduce risks, and to adapt the work to the individual while giving priority to collective (as opposed to individual) protective measures.
