03: Working time

Employers are also bound by their general duty to control the working hours and working time of employees, under the Working Time Regulations 1998. This means that they should enforce breaks between working shifts and that there should be limits on the length of the working day. The regulations also regulate night work and shift work, as well as daily and weekly rest periods, and lay down a minimum entitlement to four weeks’ paid holidays a year.
