Deadlines for reclaiming tax

The time left to claim any outstanding taxes from the 2004/05 year is approaching.

The 31 March deadline is only one month away, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) noted, so anyone who does not want to lose out on money that they could be owed should claim now.

Brian Redford, deputy director of intermediaries and external communication at the organisation, stated that nobody wants clients or employers to miss out on anything that they are rightfully entitled to.

And people looking to make appeals over self-assessment for the 2005/06 financial calendar only have until 5 April to lodge them.

For pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) workers, there is a different timetable, with 31 March representing the cut-off for 2006/07 claims and 5 April for 2007/08.

The organisation was recently accused of simplifying its message by the Low Income Tax Reform Group, a move that it says can very easily confuse and puzzle any casual readers.
