The Low Incomes Tax Reform Group (LITRG) has issued its latest guidance note to assist UK taxpayers in checking their latest PAYE code is correct. Until early March 2012, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is issuing PAYE Coding Notices for the forthcoming 2012/13 tax year.
In order to assist taxpayers in checking they have the correct code, the LITRG has created a guide which is available via:
The new guide features sections on the basics of PAYE codes and information on the underpayment restrictions related to tax for an earlier year. This new tips page also features advice on how self-assessment taxpayers can check PAYE Codes online as well as guidance on telephoning HMRC and any issues for people with disabilities.
LITRG technical officer Kelly Sizer, who is also the guide's author, said "You should always check what tax is being taken off your income and query it with HMRC if you do not understand or think it might be wrong.”
