HMRC begin online seminars for business and self-employed

Businesses and the self-employed are set to receive further guidance on paying tax from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) after the authority launched a series of online seminars.

Under the new initiative, these business owners will gain access to two types of online advice, with a series of pre-recorded webinars available from the HMRC site around the clock.

A series of live 30-minute webinar presentations will also be available across a number of set dates, with each session providing an additional 30-minute question and answer session.

The webinars will focus on important tax topics for the self employed and new business owner including advice on what first steps to take as an employer along with guidance on how VAT works and how to fill out a Self Assessment form online.

Colin Ford, who is heading up the project for HMRC said:"It's inevitable that some people find tax issues daunting, especially if they are setting out in business.

"The webinars are one of the many ways that HMRC aims to make tax as hassle free as possible," he added.

In addition to this, those accessing the presentations will also gain a greater understanding of how limited companies work, the rules surrounding business expenses and capital allowances and HMRC's Construction Industry Scheme.
